Endorse Leonard
- I have read the statements of candidates for State Superintendent of Public Instruction. On the basis of what they have posted and what I know about them from press reports there is only one deserving of support from those of us deeply committed to public education: Leonard J. Martin. Only Martin has a detailed platform that offers a meaningful response to the many issues facing our schools today. He has a courageous call for increased taxes on those who not only can afford it but who benefit directly from the success of our schools in providing our kids with a first-rate education. He recognizes the growing problem of corporate charter school management and will fight the charter mania sweeping the country. Standardized tests, No Child Left Behind and the current mis-guided Race to Destruction are clearly in his sights.
The teachers organizations who chose to endorse another candidate did so despite the fact that in private they would have to admit that Martin stands out above all the others.
Leonard J. Martin has my full support. I hope he has yours as well.
